Today, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., plans to vote in favor of the bipartisan agreement tocut spending, work toward a balanced budget and raise the debt limit.

"One thing was apparent when I spoke with constituents, whether in a formal meeting in Washington or in line at the grocery store: this debate represented more than nickel and diming, it was about putting our country back on a path toward a brighter, more prosperous future. Families saw this as a breaking point, either we keep down this path of more spending and more debt which has kept our economy in the gutter, or we change course and make some tough but necessary decisions," stated Capito. "This plan is a change of course in the right direction. We've proven to the American people that we can take steps to balance the books."

Capito has never wavered from her position that any increase in the debt limit must be accompanied by equal or greater spending cuts, and that tax increases are a non-starter. The debt agreement supports both of these principles.

"I appreciate the leadership in both parties for finding common ground and presenting a plan that puts us on a path toward a brighter, more prosperous future," concluded Capito.
