U.S. Congressman Sean Duffy (WI-07), a Member of the House Committee on Financial Services and the Joint Economic Committee, today announced that he will support the modified Budget Control Act that cuts roughly $2.1 trillion in spending and puts in place reforms that finally get our economy on the right fiscal trajectory.
Statement from Congressman Duffy:
"When we started this process 6 months ago the Administration and the Democrats wanted a blank check for our country's debt. We said no way. I was very clear that the government needed to pay our debts to avoid default. But I also made it very clear that I was not willing to do so until Washington committed to cutting up the credit cards.
"With this bill we've now changed the debate in Washington from how much we should spend to how much we should cut. Is this legislation perfect? Of course not. Should we have gone further? Absolutely. But that's the nature of the negotiating process. Without betraying our core principles we have to find an agreement that's good for central and northern Wisconsin families.
"I'm going to support this piece of legislation, imperfect as it may be, because it helps us get our fiscal house in order. It cuts spending by a larger amount than we raise the debt limit. It caps future spending to limit the growth of government, without any tax hikes that hurt our small businesses and manufacturers. And finally it guarantees the American people a vote in the House and Senate on a balanced budget amendment."
