U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) released the following statement after voting for S.365, the Budget Control Act of 2011:
"Our country is broke; we cannot pay our own bills, and America is depending on other countries to bail us out. Americans from all around the country know this simple truth, and they have said, "Enough.'
"While not perfect, the Budget Control Act of 2011 is the result of the changing debate in Washington. This bipartisan compromise takes steps to bring accountability to Washington by cutting up the credit cards, putting in place future spending controls and decreasing the size of government.
"It is quite possible that America would not find itself in its current fiscal mess if there was a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. This legislation gives the Balanced Budget Amendment a fighting chance, which I believe is the ultimate solution to getting America back on track. The people of Wyoming live under a Balanced Budget Amendment and Congress should provide the state with an avenue to demand their federal government do the same.
"This is about our country and our way of life. With this legislation, I believe we are on the path to reversing the current spending trajectory and making progress towards greater fiscal responsibility."
