The Preamble of the Constitution charges our federal government to provide for the common defense, a call which I take very seriously. Preventing the next attack on American soil must remain a national priority. As a Member of the Homeland Security Committee, I will dedicate my efforts to:
Securing the Homeland
The task of protecting our nation from external threats is a multi-front mission. Thwarting future terrorist attacks requires that we secure our borders, protect our critical infrastructure and key resources, enforce our immigration laws, and safeguard our cyberspace. From my position on the Homeland Security Committee, I will focus on fortifying our national critical infrastructure through increased public-private partnerships, as well as look for ways to strengthen and streamline the security of our transportation systems.
Fighting al-Qaeda and Its Affiliates
As American military forces continue their missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world, we must remain vigilant in our cause to defend freedom abroad when necessary. Our armed forces must be prepared to act wherever they are sent. To fulfill this mission, Congress must continue to adequately fund our military and intelligence programs, all the while maintain that hard-earned taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.
Providing Ample Resources
I am proud to represent the 110th Airlift Wing, located at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek, Michigan. Our troops are committed to defending and sacrificing for the American people. When they go into battle, they deserve the best training, equipment, and resources to accomplish their mission to uphold the foundational principles of America.
