Like all Americans, I want to lower the cost of health care and expand the number of Americans who have health insurance. But we must make sure our health care system maintains a patient-centered model of care. The health care takeover passed in 2010 gave too much control to the government, and in a costly and inefficient manner. That's why I support repealing the health care takeover, and why the first bill I co-sponsored as a member of Congress was a bill to repeal that law.
But I also support implementing new reforms that will lead to economic growth and job creation while respecting the right of Americans to choose coverage that best suits their families' needs. Discussions about reform should be open and transparent, inclusive of members of both parties, and focused on lowering costs and expanding coverage. Some broad proposals that I would entertain include:
* Allow purchasing of insurance across state lines
* Medical malpractice reform
* Expand the ability of businesses and individuals to form coverage pools
* Tax credits for individuals to purchase health insurance
* Providing Medicaid to states as block grants, thereby allowing them more freedom to find efficiences in how they provide coverage
