Klobuchar Says Bipartisan Agreement will Reopen FAA

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today said that a bipartisan agreement has been reached that will reopen the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and end the partial shutdown that is affecting airports across the state. As a result of this shutdown, airport construction has been delayed and jobs have been put at risk across the nation. Earlier today, Senator Klobuchar spoke to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood today to highlight the negative impact the impasse has had on Minnesota and urged him to help bring Senate and House leaders together to end the impasse.

"Construction projects are being halted throughout the country,"said Klobuchar. "The lack of a Federal Aviation Administration extension is hurting our aviation system and our economy -- it's time to we get this done."

The FAA currently does not have the authority to collect the fees it needs to fund infrastructure investments at airports, resulting in the furloughing of tens of thousands of workers and delaying construction projects across the country.

On Monday, Senator Klobuchar gave a speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate urging Senate and House leaders to come together to forge a bipartisan deal.
