Hochul Fights To Cut Taxpayer Giveaways To Big Oil

Today, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul fought to end taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil and cut the deficit by $4.4 million. In an amendment offered to the Interior and Environment Appropriations Bill, Hochul stated that when the country is nearing its debt limit, we need to stop spending millions of dollars on companies making billions in profits.

"Last quarter alone, Exxon Mobil posted a nearly $11 billion profit. Royal Dutch Shell posted over $6 billion in profit," said Congresswoman Hochul. "The additional $4.4 million in spending added to this bill to cover permit application processing fees is literally pocket change for these companies."

Hochul continued, "Some people don't have a problem asking our seniors, families, and small businesses to pay more during these tough times. Well, I do. I believe it is fundamentally unfair to increase spending for a taxpayer giveaway in this area by over $4 million. Almost every other area of this bill is being slashed, but the one area that greases the skids for oil companies is being increased.

"I believe that reasonable Democrats and Republicans will agree."
