Issue Position

Without question, we need to get our fiscal house in order, reduce our deficit and pay down our debt, and get Americans back to work. While Congressional Republicans have proposed an extreme plan that ends Medicare as we know it and slashes benefits for low-income families to give enormous tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest Americans, the Democratic budget is a fiscally and socially responsible solution founded upon shared sacrifice. It reaches primary balance by 2018 through a mixture of spending cuts, targeted investments, and an expiration of the budget-busting tax breaks that blew a hole in our deficit and failed to create economic prosperity.
