ObamaCare - One Year Later
Congressman Issa will continue to work with House Republicans to improve America's health care system through the support of alternative measures that will increase access, quality, and affordability of health coverage.
The Access to Insurance for All Americans Act
H.R. 429 will allow every American to purchase the same health insurance that is available to members of Congress without adding hundreds of billions of dollars to our deficit.
1099 Requirement, H.R. 4
Section 9006 of PPACA required anyone with a trade or business to file a 1099 form for every vendor with whom they conducted $600 or more in business in a given year. This would have killed American jobs. Congressman Issa cosponsored H.R. 4, to repeal this onerous job-killing requirement.
Medical Liability Reform, H.R. 5
Congressman Issa supports common sense and popular alternatives such as tort reform that would reduce health care costs. Unfortunately, frivolous lawsuits are causing doctors to face skyrocketing malpractice insurance rates. The mere threat of litigation prompts physicians to practice "defensive medicine," recommending tests and procedures in some cases to limit future liability rather than focusing on the needs of their patients. Using the California model, this bill would limit this problem without limiting compensation for plaintiffs' economic damages. Congressman Issa is a cosponsor of H.R. 5 by Congressman Phil Gingrey.
Individual Mandate, H.R. 21
Congressman Issa is a cosponsor of H.R. 21 to repeal the PPACA requirement that individuals purchase and maintain minimum essential health care coverage.
Across State Line Purchases, H.R. 371
Congressman Issa is a cosponsor of H.R. 371 which will permit the sale of health insurance across state lines. The Act will allow consumers to shop for health insurance online, by mail, over the phone, or in consultation with an insurance agent. It will give consumers greater options through increased competition.
Medical Devise Excise Tax, H.R. 436
Congressman Issa is also a cosponsor of H.R. 436 to repeal the $20 billion medical devise tax created by PPACA. This tax will hurt job creators and raise the cost of medical devises to patients. He supports a repeal of this and the other taxes created by the health care reform bill.
