Text of Senator Charles Schumer's Letter to Mr. Stephen A Perry, Administrator General Services Adminstration

Dear Mr. Perry:

I am writing to you concerning the General Services Administration's search for suitable space of approximately 10,000 square feet in Orange County to house the Magistrate's Court and ancillary services. I urge you to make every effort possible to locate these facilities in the City of Middletown.

My office has been in regular contact with Kevin Fahey, project manager, Realty Services Division, who has been very responsive and, I understand, is looking seriously at a number of sites, including several in Middletown.

I believe that locating these offices and the Court in the City of Middletown is an important priority. While Orange County as a whole is seeing tremendous population growth, most of it is occurring in the suburban areas. We must do all we can to encourage the revitalization efforts in the county's cities as well.

I support the eventual establishment of a full federal courthouse in Middletown. The offices GSA is now seeking, while not directly tied to building a federal courthouse in Middletown, would be a promising federal investment in the City.

My office will continue to provide GSA whatever assistance you wish in the effort to locate suitable court and office facilities in Middletown.
