Issue Position

Trade is one of the cornerstones of America 's relationship with other nations. Trade promotes economic freedoms, helps alleviate poverty, and builds more prosperous neighbors and better relationships between countries.

Throughout his service in the House of Representatives, Congressman Sessions has been a leader in trade and foreign relations matters. He believes that these critical issues are the keys to Texas' economic resurgence and will be vital in America 's economic recovery. Sessions is a national leader in the fight to open foreign markets to American goods and services and to ensure that American consumers enjoy the benefits of imports.

Free Trade Agreements:
Congressman Sessions is a strong proponent of Free Trade Agreements (FTA). FTAs have removed barriers to free market competition, and they also offer improved dispute resolution opportunities to work out future disagreements. They have generated opportunities and jobs for U.S. workers and businesses and have provided access to affordable products for consumers.

There are currently three pending Free Trade Agreements negotiated by the Bush Administration that Congress has yet to address -- Panama, Colombia, and Korea , respectively. Congressman Sessions believes that passing these Free Trade Agreements will enhance economic growth, foster democracy and stability, build alliances to help us in other negotiations and ultimately raise the standard of living for all parties involved.

Congressman Sessions will continue to support free trade and fight to keep markets open for American manufacturers and consumers.
