Issue Position

Fighting for Veterans' Rights to Receive the Care They Deserve:

I will be reintroducing the Wounded Veteran Job Security Act to ensure that no wounded veteran ever has to make the decision between getting well and getting paid. The bill amends existing law to establish the right of veterans who receive treatment for illness, injuries, and disabilities incurred in, or aggravated by, uniformed service to the United States to be retained by their employers. This bill is important to our commitment to our nation's veterans because battlefield injuries often don't end on the battlefield, and neither should our commitment to wounded warriors. The legislation is supported by many organizations, including the American Legion, the Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans for Common Sense, the Reserve Officers Association, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Supporting Reform in Egypt:

I have long advocated for an end to the dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak. During the Bush Administration, I gave a speech calling for the United States to limit aid to Mubarak's regime. During the recent crisis, I called on President Obama to cut off American tax dollars to Egypt unless Mubarak stepped down. Mubarak's departure, made possible by Facebook Patriots and other Egyptians, is a critical first step in the transition to democracy. The path ahead will not be smooth, but I believe it offers us much more hope to counter the threat of extremism than continuing to fund tyranny. Any future American aid should come with the precondition that Egypt undergoes the genuine democratic reform that its people have rightly demanded.
