Today, Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member on the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the debt ceiling proposal House Republicans introduced this afternoon.
"Today, after walking away three times from bipartisan negotiations for a long-term deficit reduction solution, House Republicans proposed a plan that will generate continued uncertainty and instability in the economy. The American people do not want to play Russian Roulette with our economy every six months. This is a dangerous, reckless path. House Republicans accuse the President of playing politics because he wants to avoid putting our economic recovery in jeopardy every six months -- the real question is why don't they want the same thing?"
