U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, will hold an oversight hearing Thursday on Enforcing the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act - The Role of the National Indian Gaming Commission and Tribes as Regulators.

The purpose of the hearing is to examine the mission, responsibilities, and priorities of the National Indian Gaming Commission in relation to tribal, federal, and state regulatory authority. The commission's chair will update the committee about efforts made since the most recent hearing held on Indian gaming in July of last year. Tribal organizations and regulators will testify on their experiences with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and about best practices and challenges faced in regulating Indian gaming.
