Mayor James A. Young Endorses Johnny DuPree for Governor

Dear Supporter,

My name is James Young and I am the Mayor of Philadelphia, Mississippi. I have known Mayor Johnny DuPree for a number of years as both of us served on the Board of Supervisors in our respective counties.

I believe in Johnny DuPree because I know and respect his integrity, his commitment to the people of Mississippi, his vision, and ability to bring all people together to solve Mississippi's problems.

One of the biggest problems facing Mississippi today is our poor education system. Mayor DuPree served on the Forrest County School Board and helped lead Forrest County past segregation and busing issues. Because of his demonstrated leadership abilities, he was elected by his peers to serve as School Board President.

Johnny DuPree has a plan to improve the education system for our children in Mississippi.

Mayor DuPree believes that adequate funding of our education system is not enough. If we want excellent education, we as Mississippians, must be ready to provide our schools, teachers, and students with the resources they need to succeed.

Mayor DuPree believes we need early childhood development so our children are prepared when they enter Kindergarten and are on the right path to excellence. Mayor DuPree will offer incentives to day cares, faith-based pre-schools, and other learning institutions to use a uniform curriculum.

Johnny also believes that it is time that we really show our commitment to education through the implementation of Education Coaches: Phonics Coaches to help our children read, Math and Science Coaches to make our children competitive in our global society, and Graduation Coaches to help our children get in college and finish College.

There are students who want to work with their hands in carpentry, welding, and mechanics. Mayor DuPree believes that we must return to vocational training in our schools if we are to embrace all of our children.

I know Mayor DuPree's platform and I BELIEVE in his platform. Mayor DuPree is advocating drastic changes in the way we educate our children. I have heard Mayor DuPree say that we have to "restructure" our education system--not reform. And, I agree. Our education system cannot be the same if we are to expect different results.

I personally know the rigors of running for public office. During my campaign for Mayor of Philadelphia, we had a shoestring budget, a dozen volunteer workers, and no yard signs, buttons or t-shirts.

What we did have was the belief that the people would open their hearts and minds to choose the person who best represented their interests and the interests of their children.

Stand with me and help elect Johnny DuPree as our next governor of the great state of Mississippi.
