Dear friend,
As the president of the Mississippi Supervisors Association, I can say with great confidence that Johnny DuPree is the best candidate to be our next governor.
Johnny understands the role of local government and how it relates to creating jobs, ensuring safe communities and building strong schools. He knows that when our leaders in Jackson pass budgets with large deficits that its the counties and the cities that have to pick up the tab. And Johnny DuPree knows that the decisions that are made in Jackson are not forgotten when the Legislature leaves the Capitol but must be dealt with day-in and day-out by the taxpayers.
We need Johnny DuPree as governor because he will govern with our communities, our cities and our counties in mind. He knows how to be successful at home, and he'll take that knowledge with him to Jackson.
Johnny was elected to three terms as a member of the Forrest County Board of Supervisors. He had to deal with paving roads, fixing bridges, passing local ordinances, funding a sheriff's department and helping our public schools.
Before that, he was president of the Hattiesburg School District during the time of desegregation. And he's spent 10 years as mayor of Hattiesburg, contending with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the Great Recession.
Under Johnny DuPree's leadership, Forrest County grew. The City of Hattiesburg grew. And Mississippi will grow.
We need Johnny DuPree as governor. I hope you'll join me in supporting Johnny DuPree on Aug. 2 in the Democratic Primary.
Sincerely,
Larry Havard
George County Supervisor
Immediate Past President of Mississippi Association of Supervisors
