Mayor Charley Dumas Endorses Johnny DuPree

I've known Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree for many years, and it gives me great honor to endorse him as the next governor of Mississippi.
First off, Johnny is a great guy. He's always led by example, both professionally and personally. He is respectful, honorable and humble. That's why he's been so successful as mayor of Hattiesburg and as president of the Mississippi Municipal League.
But being a nice guy is not enough, and it's not the only reason I'm endorsing him. I'm endorsing Johnny DuPree for governor because he understands what it means to be on the ground level of Mississippi communities as a leader.
As mayor of Hattiesburg, he's had to endure the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the devastating economic impact of this recession. But you know this story. You know that during this time they never cut city services, never laid off employees and never raised taxes. You know that last year they created 2,000 jobs over the past 18 months.
But what you may not know is how during these troubling times Mayor DuPree and the City of Hattiesburg has reached out to other areas of the state to help them as well. He sent workers, equipment and supplies to the coast. He met with economic leaders from places outside of Hattiesburg. And he helped lead the Mississippi Municipal League as president.
One of his greatest accomplishments as president of the Municipal League was to get more young people involved in public service. That's what Johnny is. He's a public servant. And he wanted young people to know the importance of public service and local government. So he expanded the Mayor's Youth Council program throughout the state.
We need a mayor with his experience in leading and creating jobs, not to mention his intimate understanding of how decisions made in Jackson impact our local communities.
Please join me on Aug. 2 in voting for Johnny DuPree for governor. Together, we can work with Johnny to Make Mississippi First!
