Statement by Senator Reed on the Three Year Anniversary of September 11

Three years ago we were tragically struck by a ruthless terrorist attack which shook the nation to the core with sorrow and anger. As America continues to recover and grow stronger we must ensure that we stop and remember September 11, 2001 and those who now live only in memory.

Americans can be proud that those who attacked us did not destroy our society or liberties, but strengthened our resolve and made us more determined to embrace our freedom.

But as the tragedy in Russia has reminded us, we can best honor the memories of those who were killed on September 11 and those who have been killed fighting the war on terrorism, by dedicating ourselves to building a free and peaceful world safe from the threat of terrorism.
