SENATOR COLLINS HELPS STITCH NATIONAL 9/11 FLAG

U.S. Senator Susan Collins participated in a special ceremony today, along with the families of 9/11 victims, military veterans, first responders, and other Members of Congress, to help stitch together an American flag that was destroyed during the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The National 9/11 Flag, as it is now known, is being stitched back together by Americans across the country and today's ceremony in Washington formally begins nationwide plans to organize for the upcoming 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

"So many people suffered inconsolable loss due to an act of unimaginable cruelty on September 11, 2001," said Senator Collins. "I am proud to participate in an event that brings us together in the spirit of unity and resilience and reminds us of the unconquerable spirit of the American people."

The National 9/11 Flag is currently touring each of the 50 states. When complete, it will become part of the permanent collection of the National September 11 Memorial Museum being built at the World Trade Center.
