Representative Kathy Hochul Calls For Congress To Pass Long-Term FAA Reauthorization

Today, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul voted for a short-term extension of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs.

"While I voted for today's extension, I am disappointed that this marks the 21st short-term extension for these programs," said Congresswoman Hochul. "A full FAA Reauthorization has not been signed into law in over seven and a half years. This is unacceptable and the time to vote on a long-term reauthorization is now. Every day we waste time with short-term extensions just kicks the can further down the road.

"We cannot afford to play partisan games with flight safety. Congress is not doing its job. Members of Congress need to play an active role in crafting flight-safety legislation, and we cannot do that as long we continue passing stop-gap measures like this.

"I call on my colleagues in both chambers, from both sides of the aisle, to gather around the negotiating table so we can work out our differences and finally pass a long-term reauthorization. Our constituents deserve better than a 56-day extension; they deserve the certainty that comes with a full reauthorization. No matter whether the next extension is short-term or long-term, I pledge to do whatever I can to make sure the concerns of the families of Continental Flight 3407 victims are heeded."
