Blumenthal Statement on President Obama's Nomination of Richard Cordray to Head CFPB

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement today after President Obama announced his nomination of former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to lead the recently established Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):

"President Obama has chosen a true consumer advocate in selecting former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. His law enforcement background, along with his service to Ohio as Treasurer, underscores his long and distinguished record of fighting for consumers. In his most recent post as Ohio's Attorney General, Rich was a staunch advocate for homeowners, and challenged mortgage servicers on their practices that were impeding our economic recovery. Having worked personally with Rich on such issues, I am hopeful for a swift confirmation so that he can begin work protecting consumers from financial abuses and scams."
