BUSH REGULATIONS WILL CUT THE OVERTIME PAY OF UP TO 6 MILLION WORKERS

Under President Bush, average workers have seen their incomes reduced by over $1,500. Unfortunately, the President's policies will only make matters worse. Last week, President Bush implemented regulations to cut the overtime pay of up to 6 million workers.

Sanders said, "President's Bush's overtime regulations represent the most sweeping anti-worker revisions to the Fair Labor Standards Act since its inception in 1938 and, in effect, amount to a huge pay cut for American workers. Overtime pay accounts for 25 percent of the income of workers who work overtime. As more and more families cannot survive on the pay they earn in a 40 hour work week, overtime is increasingly relied upon to pay mortgages, plan for retirement, and meet other basic needs essential for working Americans. Congress must eliminate President Bush's overtime pay cut and restore the pay of millions of workers."
