No Plan, No Jobs

Congressman James Lankford (R-OK) commented Friday morning after the unemployment rate continued to creep up to 9.2% and on the 800-day mark since Senate Democrats last produced a budget.

"The connection between Washington's failure to plan and lackluster job growth cannot be ignored," said Congressman Lankford. "It has now been 800 days since Senate Democrats passed a budget. During that time, the federal government has drifted aimlessly without any sense of direction. President Obama's stimulus that added nearly a trillion dollars in debt to "save jobs' has proven to be an economic disaster. With no plan for a budget, no plan to handle our crushing burden of debt, and no plan for job creation, our economy has remained sluggish under the uncertainty.

"Consistency and predictability is vital for job creators to build their businesses and hire workers. But the absence of leadership in the Senate and the White House has produced an atmosphere where the private sector has no confidence that the federal government can get its act together. If we continue to avoid our responsibility to plan for the future, the future of our economy will only grow dimmer.

"House Republicans have continued to work for pro-growth solutions. We have passed a budget that restores fiscal responsibility and incentivizes economic growth. We have passed numerous bills to jumpstart job creation through reduced regulations, tax reform and ending energy exploration moratoriums. It is the job of the federal government to provide stability and encourage economic freedom in the private sector. That is the key to job creation, and that should be the way forward."
