Highlights from the Immigration Forum

Statement

On Saturday, June 18, I hosted an Immigration Forum for Caribbean Heritage Month with special guest Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). We had the opportunity to hear from residents about how current immigration laws put them and their loved ones at risk of deportation. Across this nation, families of all different backgrounds, ethnicities and races are negatively affected by our current immigration policies.

This event was a great way to highlight the fact that there are families of Caribbean and African decent that need better immigration laws to protect the better interests of our nation as a whole. Together we stood united with our Hispanic brothers and sisters in calling for the federal government and the Obama Administration to immediately act on changing current policies. As we move forward, I will continue working with my colleagues to enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform
