Rep. Clarke Participates in Caribbean Women's Conference

Statement

Date: July 1, 2011
Issues: Women

This week I had the pleasure of attending the Regional Women's Colloquium in Trinidad and Tobago. It was a great honor, as the only black woman serving in the Congressional Delegation in New York and a woman of Caribbean descent, to be a part of this important conference. I met with important stakeholders such as the first woman Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar. The objective was to examine ways we can improve policies that help women around the worldparticularly those in the Caribbean Diaspora. We must continue to help develop strong woman leaders, as well as improving women's lifestyle within the region. As a representative of one of the largest concentration of Caribbean Immigrant populations in the country, I will continue to fight for women to have stronger leadership roles in Caribbean society and around the world.
