The State of the Economy

Statement

Date: July 1, 2011

On Wednesday, June 29, President Obama addressed the nation on the state of the US economy. He explained that to solve our economic issues both parties must come together and reach an agreement. The President made it clear that eliminating tax cuts for the rich must be on the table in the debt ceiling negotiations. I agree with President Obama that we must reform the tax code to eliminate preferential tax rates for multi-millionaires and billionaires. Tax should also come from wealthy CEO's and hedge fund managers in America not soley on the backs of the middle class, some who are living paycheck to paycheck. We should also invest in small businesses, and in our youth's secondary education.

It is time for Republicans to stop playing the blame game and focus on the important issues. It is not about personal gain or party achievements. It's about how we can stabilize and solve our economic issues. Our government was founded for the people not for bragging rights. Let us do what we need to do to stabilize this economy and build jobs.
