Lummis Statement on President's Decision to Tap Petroleum Reserve

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) issued the following statement in response to the Obama Administration's announcement regarding its plans to release 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:

"This misguided move to release America's emergency reserves is like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound. Not only will tapping our reserves do little to ease our energy crisis, the Obama Administration's actions exploit a crucial national security instrument in the name of political gain. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is intended for severe disruptions in energy supply, not falling poll numbers due to high gas prices.

"Americans deserve better than a quick fix; they want lasting and meaningful solutions to our nation's energy crisis. It's long past time we alleviate our country's irresponsible reliance on foreign oil."
