Blog: Personal Thanks on this Memorial Day

Statement

As we observe Memorial Day, I'd like to add my personal thanks to all those who have served and sacrificed.

There is much to be grateful for, even in these uncertain times. Over the years, with each passing of another Memorial Day in the Spring, and Veterans Day in the Fall, my humility, pride and admiration for those who have donned the uniform and served our nation grows.

While I am proud of my active duty service as a JAGC officer in the III Corps Headquarters at Fort Hood, and remember fondly the pride with which I wore the Army Uniform, I am even more appreciative of those younger Americans who have made us all so proud with their patriotic service in more recent times. My pride is enlarged by the fact that one of my daughters served as a Navy officer and deployed to the Persian Gulf twice in support of the Global war on Terror.

It's a great honor to serve our country in the "profession of arms," but there was great trepidation by this father in sending my loved one into harm's way even knowing how important the mission for our country. On this Memorial Day, thanks to all the family folks who have provided the home front support for Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coastguardsmen. Like most things in life, it takes a team to accomplish the objective, and I salute all our military team members past and present for their resolve in getting the job done for our nation.

On this Memorial Day my thoughts and special prayers go out to those who have had the good fortune and honor to see their family members follow in their footsteps of service to our Nation.
