Pelosi Statement on Viewing New Photographs of Abuse in Iraq
Washington, D.C.-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement after reviewing new photographs and video of abuse in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq:
"The disturbing photographs presented today reinforce my belief that a full congressional investigation is necessary.
"Based on what I have seen, the photos that have been released publicly and the accounts of abuse in the Taguba report provide an accurate sense of what happened to the prisoners.
"While I favor the release of as much information as possible, the decision whether to release these additional photos must consider the privacy rights of the prisoners, law enforcement concerns, and the Geneva Conventions, which protect detainees 'against insult and public curiosity."
