Congressman Murphy Responds to Recent Events in Syria

Statement

"I strongly condemn the continued killing and arrests of peaceful pro-democracy protesters in Syria. President Bashar Assad has lost the legitimate right to govern and it's time the international community joins the Syrian people in their effort to show him the door. President Obama was right to personally sanction Assad and members of his government responsible for the deaths of protesters, which recently included 13-year-old Hamza al-Khatib. Now the US must lead the United Nations Security Council to condemn the violence and issue tough sanctions on the entire Syrian regime."
