Cornyn Statement Following Confirmation Of Leon Panetta As Secretary Of Defense

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement in favor of the nomination of Leon E. Panetta to be Secretary of Defense. His nomination was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate.

"I wish Director Panetta well as he takes the reins at the Department of Defense, and I am confident that he will ensure our Armed Forces remain second to none," Sen. Cornyn said. "Director Panetta assured me that is he is committed to ushering in more responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars at the Pentagon, and I will hold him to it. In light of our nation's current fiscal challenges, creating a culture of fiscal efficiency at the Department of Defense is more important than ever, and we must always ensure our military gets the resources they need, especially while they are engaged in two and a half wars."
