Washington, D.C.-La Líder Demócrata en la Cámara Representantes Nancy Pelosi hizo las siguientes declaraciones para celebrar el 75 aniversario de la Liga de los Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos (LULAC, por sus siglas en inglés):

"Felicitaciones a la Liga de los Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos por sus 75 años de excelente servicio. Su trabajo a mejorado las vidas de millones de hispanos y ha sido beneficiado a nuestro país entero.

"Hace 75 años, los fundadores de Liga de los Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos, mejor conocidos como LULAC, se unieron para establecer una organización que se convirtiera en la más grande, original y la más exitosa organización defensora de los derechos civiles para los hispanos en los Estados Unidos. Desde sus comienzos en febrero de 1929 en Corpus Christi, Texas, LULAC ha defendido la causa de los hispanos en la educación, empleo, crecimiento económico y derechos civiles.

"LULAC a desarrollado una serie de programas abarcadores a través de toda la nación fomentando la educación, adiestramiento laboral, vivienda, becas, ciudadanía y registración para votar. Sus miembros han desarrollado un historial impresionante en la defensa de la prosperidad y derechos civiles de la población latina en los Estados Unidos. La plataforma legislativa de LULAC promueve alivio humanitario para los inmigrantes, aumentar las oportunidades educativas para la juventud y un trato justo para todos los hispanos en los Estados Unidos y en sus territorios incluyendo el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico.

"Este año, la Liga de los Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos van a celebrar 75 años de servicio comunitario y de lucha por aumentar las oportunidades educacionales y mejorar la calidad de vida para los hispanos. Estoy muy orgullosa de unirme a mis colegas en el Caucus Hispano Congresional, la membresía de LULAC y de los estadounidenses a través de este país para felicitar a LULAC por sus 75 años de servicio y por las grandes contribuciones que LULAC a hecho para nuestro país.

Your work has improved the lives of millions of Hispanic Americans and has benefited our entire country.

"75 years ago, the founders of the League of United Latin American Citizens, better known as LULAC, joined together to establish an organization that would become the largest, oldest and most successful Hispanic civil rights and service organization in the United States. Since its inception in February 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas, LULAC has championed the cause of Hispanic Americans in education, employment, economic development and civil rights.

"LULAC has developed a comprehensive set of nationwide programs fostering educational attainment, job training, housing, scholarships, citizenship, and voter registration. Its members throughout the nation have developed a tremendous track record advancing the prosperity and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States. LULAC's legislative platform promotes humanitarian relief for immigrants, increased educational opportunities for our youth, and equal treatment for all Hispanics in the United States and its territories including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

"This year, the League of United Latin American Citizens will celebrate 75 years of community service to increase educational opportunities and improve the quality of life for Hispanic Americans.
