Oregon's Senator Jeff Merkley joined 63 of his colleagues in voting to confirm Michael Simon of Oregon as a United States District Judge for the District of Oregon. After the vote, Merkley issued the following statement:
"Michael Simon is a man of enormous integrity, intellectual breadth and depth, and good old-fashioned common sense decency. In private practice and government service, he has made a name for himself as a staunch defender of consumers, antitrust laws, and the First Amendment. Simon has a brilliant legal mind and a dedication to fairness and justice -- exactly the traits we need in our judicial system. He is beyond qualified and I am pleased that he has been confirmed as the next U.S. District Judge for Oregon."
