"I am disappointed in Delta's decision announced today to move its training and technical workers out of Minnesota. This move will eliminate hundreds of good Minnesota jobs. Let's not forget that Delta's 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines also cost Minnesota 1,500 jobs.
"In 2008 I raised questions regarding the impact of this merger on jobs in Minnesota and the workers at Northwest, highlighting these very problems that occurred from past mergers.
"Delta is announcing this transfer the same week that the National Mediation Board announced it will investigate widespread allegations that Delta illegally interfered with union elections. Northwest had strong union representation, which the merger damaged. I've heard from my constituents -- flight attendants and baggage handlers -- about Delta's determination to prevent them from re-forming these unions, so I will watch the Board's review.
"Delta announced it will repay the $175 million loan the State of Minnesota gave Northwest Airlines when it was trying to stay afloat and I hope the company will do this in an expedient manner."
