Pelosi Statement on Senate Testimony by Former Weapons Inspector David Kay
Washington, D.C.-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today reacting to Senate testimony by former Chief Weapons Inspector David Kay:
"Today's testimony by Dr. Kay clearly indicates that there was no imminent threat from Saddam Hussein and that the intelligence did not support the Bush Administration's contention that there was no alternative but to go to war when we did.
"I said at the time that the intelligence did not support the Administration's contention of an imminent threat to the United States. We must have a full and independent investigation of the basis for which the President told the Congress and the American people that war was necessary because of the threat posed by Iraq. The President owes the American people an explanation as to why we went to war when there was no imminent threat."
