Rokita Responds to More Negative Economic News

Today's report from the Department of Labor is another indication that the policies of President Obama and Democrats in Congress have made matters worse, not better.

"Today's unemployment numbers are just the latest indication that the policies of President Obama and Democrats in Congress have tied the hands of small business owners and job creators with burdensome regulations and backward fiscal policies that have stalled the economy, slowed innovation, and destroyed jobs,"Rokita said.

The unemployment rate increased to 9.1 percent in May, with the economy only adding 54,000 jobs nationwide, the weakest showing in months.

"Getting our economy growing again and helping small business owners and entrepreneurs create jobs is my top priority. That's why I recently launched Red Tape Rollback in partnership with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Burdensome and unnecessary federal regulations are job killers, especially at a time when many businesses are struggling just to get by," Rokita added.

Republicans have put forward a serious job creation agenda designed to get small businesses hiring again, reform the tax code, reduce energy prices, and eliminate burdensome and unnecessary regulations that cost Americans jobs. Republicans have also put forward serious proposals to address the debt crisis that threatens to completely derail our economy.

Democrats continue to offer only fear-mongering, demagoguery and plans for more taxes, more spending and more regulation--and they wonder why the economy continues to worsen. As a result of their policies, not only are Hoosier families and people across America losing jobs, but they are seeing the price of goods, from gasoline to groceries, skyrocket.
