Stutzman Votes to Protect American Service Members from Lack of Planning

Statement

Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03) voted today for H. Res 292 "Declaring that the President shall not deploy, establish, or maintain the presence of units and members of the United States Armed Forces on the ground in Libya' and H. Con Res. 51 "Directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove the United States Armed Forces from Libya.' H. Res. 292 requires that the Administration transmit to the House, no later than 14 days from adoption, the communications pertaining to Libya and to submit a report to Congress on the U. S. involvement in Libya. H. Con. Res. 51 directs the President pursuant to the War Powers Act, to remove U. S. Armed Forces from Libya within 15 days of enactment of the bill.

"Today, I voted for two resolutions dealing with the situation in Libya." Stutzman stated "The White House has not convinced me that there is a set mission and a clear goal. This lack of leadership and foresight makes it impossible for me to vote to put American lives in harm's way. The Administration has changed the operation almost weekly since it began without consulting Congress. Going to war is very serious and this is not the time to enter a war without a definitive goal or mission."
