Lummis Votes No on President's Debt Limit Increase

Today, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) rejected President Obama's budget request for an unconditional increase of the debt limit. Lummis released the following statement:

"Washington's record of reckless spending does little to instill confidence among our country's global trading partners and our bond purchasers. The inclusion of significant spending cuts and structural reforms to any increase of the debt limit is the only way to assure the purchasers of U.S. treasuries that America means business when it comes to getting our unsustainable debt and deficit under control."

"I will not accept anything less than dramatic indications that we are going to put our U.S. Treasuries in a place where people will buy them in the future. America's credit cards are maxed out; Washington must make a significant commitment to meaningful reform and take action on spending cuts."
