Duffy Statement on Job Numbers

Statement

Date: June 3, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

"Today's jobs numbers are more proof that government borrowing, printing and massive spending does nothing to boost the economy or create jobs."

U.S.Congressman Sean Duffy (WI-07), a Member of the House Committee on Financial Services and the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement in response to the news that the unemployment rate rose to 9.1 percent:

"Today's jobs numbers are more proof that government borrowing, printing and massive spending does nothing to boost the economy or create jobs. This comes from the private sector, where more than 80% of Americans work. In fact, the policies coming from Washington have continued to make it more difficult for the real job creators -- American small businesses and entrepreneurs -- to innovate and invest.

"Our economy needs certainty and clarity, and for too long we have gotten neither from Washington. This is crippling our economic recovery. While government can't create jobs, it has a role in creating the right conditions and economic environment for our businesses and entrepreneurs to invest and employ more Americans.

"House Republicans have been leading the way in trying to empower small businesses, make America more globally competitive and get our economy moving again, but we can't do it alone. We need the Democrats who run the Senate and the Administration to engage in this conversation and stop doubling down on the status quo that brought us today's bad economic news."
