Courtney Announces $6.5 Million in Rural Development Funds for Town of Lebanon

Congressman Joe Courtney today announced $6,550,000 in grant and loan funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help fund the Town of Lebanon's sewer line replacement project. Existing residences in the Amston Lake Region will receive low pressure sewer lines and pumps.

"These funds are needed to prevent the water pollution issues that arise from aging waste disposal infrastructure, and will help many people around Amston Lake," said Courtney. "Preserving and improving water quality is essential to eastern Connecticut's rural communities and I am pleased that the town secured the resources it needs to keep its residents safe now and in the future."

Awarded through the USDA's Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program, these funds will be used to install low-pressure sewer lines and grinder pumps that are equipped to function in the event of a prolonged power outage. These lines will be directed to Hebron's sewer system and will serve nearly 7,000 people in the region.

Of the $6,550,000 awarded to the Town of Lebanon by USDA's Rural Development mission, $5,105,000 are loaned funds and $1,445,000 are a grant. USDA's programs are designed to promote economic stability for communities, businesses, and farmers in rural areas.
