Today Rep. Calvert issued the following statement in support of the Supreme Court's ruling that Arizona may revoke the business licenses of companies that knowingly employ illegal immigrants:
"Today's ruling is a win for U.S. workers and for states rights. Arizona has every right to require businesses to hire legal workers and mandate the use of E-Verify to ensure jobs are only going to American citizens and legal residents. The federal government has failed to secure our borders or enforce the laws currently on the books. It is against the law to hire an illegal immigrant so mandating E-Verify simply ensures that employers are complying with existing law. I call on the State of California to implement a similar law."
Rep. Calvert is the original author of E-Verify and is currently working with the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Lamar Smith (R-TX), to introduce a bill to make E-Verify mandatory throughout the United States. E-Verify is web-based, free to employers, and 99.5% accurate.
