City of Corona Receives Over $1.2 Million in Federal Funding for Water Project

Rep. Calvert Expresses His Support and Congratulations

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has selected the City of Corona, along with seven other construction projects in California, for funding under WaterSMART's Title XVI Water Reclamation and Reuse Program.

"I was pleased to support the inclusion of authorizing language for the Corona project that was ultimately rolled into the Omnibus Public Lands Act," said Rep. Calvert. "California must find ways to make itself water-independent including increasing our water reclamation capacity. The City of Corona is making itself part of the solution to ensure our future water supply."

Eligible projects include construction activities that can start in Fiscal Year 2011 and be completed within 24 months, or construction activities that have been completed previously without federal funding that are eligible for reimbursement. To be eligible to receive funding for construction activities, a water reclamation and reuse project must be specifically authorized under Title XVI of Public Law 102-575.

The City of Corona, Reclaimed Waterline Project received $1,273,097 in reclamation funding. The total project cost is estimated to be $5,092,389. Funding will be used to install approximately 24,200 linear feet of reclaimed water pipeline within the City of Corona to reach additional reclaimed water customers. The project is expected to provide 2,640 acre-feet of reclaimed water annually, thereby reducing the City's need to develop or expand potable water supplies in the future.
