Statement from Congresswoman Hochul on Today's Vote on Libya

Statement

"Today, I voted for Speaker Boehner's resolution that would ensure the President seek the consent of Congress before deploying any troops into Libya. This resolution strikes the right balance between supporting the ongoing NATO mission in Libya and calling for more information about the effort and our involvement.

"The cost of going at this alone would not have only been too high in terms of human lives, but financially as well. The United States and our NATO allies were right to join together and take action to prevent Moammar Ghadafi from brutally killing his own citizens, and NATO has since taken the lead in carrying out the mission. At the same time, it is appropriate for the Administration to quickly provide Congress with additional information about the situation in Libya. The resolution I voted for today does just that."
