Van Hollen Statement on Senate Vote on Republican Plan to End Medicare

Statement

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Senate vote on the Republican plan to end Medicare:

"Today, the Senate voted to reject the Republican budget, which terminates the Medicare guarantee but protects taxpayer subsidies for big oil companies. This builds on last night's special election in New York's 26th Congressional District, where voters sent the same clear message. Even Newt Gingrich called the Republican effort to dismantle Medicare "right wing social engineering.' Just about everyone in America rejects this plan except House and Senate Republicans. When will they get the message?"
