Pingree Tours Maine Breweries, Meets with Maine Brewers Guild

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree toured Allagash Brewing and Shipyard Brewery in Portland today, during American Craft Beer Week.

"The Maine brewing industry has created hundreds of jobs and produced some of the best beer in America," Pingree said. "It's important to help these small businesses thrive and grow."

After the tour, Pingree met with the Maine Brewers Guild and told them she is backing legislation in Congress that would give small brewers a federal tax break of $2 a barrel.

"These small companies are growing and creating jobs and it makes a lot of sense to give them a tax break to help them compete," she said.

Pingree has also announced her support for similar legislation to cut federal excise taxes for other types of small distilleries, like Cold River Vodka in Maine.

In Congress, Pingree is a member of the House Small Brewing Caucus.
