Rep. Fleming: Obama Compromises Israel…Again

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement today responding to President Obama's unrealistic and troubling calls for Israel to return to its 1967 borders as a condition to advance peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.

"Once again, President Obama, through this clear reversal in policy, is turning his back on our strongest ally in the Middle East, weakening Israel's negotiating posture, and further complicating an already challenging security situation. Moreover, the timing of this announcement is irresponsible and is a slap in the face to Israel given Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit. By proposing the largest land concession EVER from Israel, the President is placating actors that are aligned with terrorist organizations like Hamas which are committed to the total destruction of Israel," said Congressman Fleming.

Congressman Fleming added, "At a time of unprecedented instability in the Middle East, we should be standing strong with Israel. Regrettably President Obama continues to compromise Israel with mixed signals and inconsistent policy. During his 2008 campaign, why would then candidate-Obama support an undivided Jerusalem and NOW reverse himself? It speaks to President Obama's naïvety on foreign policy and is deeply disturbing."
