Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Energy, for the first time in 40 years, granted approval to export domestically produced natural gas from the Sabine Pass Terminal to any country that has, or in the future develops, the capacity to import liquified natural gas.
"We are now one step closer to lowering energy prices and becoming more energy independent. With the ability to export natural gas, Louisiana will be able to compete globally in the energy marketplace which will create an economic boost to the state especially in the Haynesville Shale Natural Gas Formation Field. This will not only create real jobs but also stimulate economic activity," said Congressman Fleming.
Congressman Fleming added, "I support an 'all of the above' approach to energy development including natural gas. With gas prices hovering around $4 per gallon, it only makes sense to develop natural gas which costs $1.89 per gallon equivalent."
