Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, New Iberia) released the following praise after the House passed H.R. 1540 -- the Fiscal Year 2012 National Defense Authorization Act:
"In a transparent and open process, the House voted today to strengthen our national security, support our nation's military personnel, and save the taxpayers money. H.R. 1540 will ensure that our troops have the equipment, training, and time needed to successfully complete their missions and return home. The bill will provide our war fighters and their families with the resources and support they deserve. It also mandates accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility within the Department of Defense. I am proud that we were able to save the taxpayers $15 billion while still giving our troops a pay raise and ensuring the survivors of deceased service members do not have to pay more for their benefits. I applaud those who joined me in voting for final passage of the bill."
