Rep. Todd Young to Vote 'No' on Blind Debt Limit Increase

Statement

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) said Tuesday afternoon that he plans to vote against a blind increase in the country's debt limit when it comes to the House floor later in the evening. Young and other Republicans have said they hope to tie significant spending cuts and debt reduction measures to the vote, but planned to hold a standalone vote on the debt limit increase at the request of President Obama and House Democrats.

Rep. Young also release the following statement regarding his vote:

"My goal in this Congress is to create an atmosphere where jobs can grow and the economy can thrive. To help create jobs, we must let businesses know that we are serious about reducing our debt and removing the threat of massive tax increases to pay for our unsustainable spending. Voting to increase the debt limit without any corresponding package of spending cuts or debt reduction would send the message that it's business as usual in Washington. Therefore, I intend to vote "No' today. This vote serves as a signal to job creators that we're serious about getting our debt under control so they can feel confident about putting Hoosiers back to work." --Rep.
