Rokita Votes for Legislation Helping Disabled Veterans, GI Bill Recipients

Statement

Today Rep. Todd Rokita (IN-4) voted for legislation to protect benefits for disabled veterans and extend educational benefits for veterans attending private colleges and universities on the GI Bill. Rokita release the following statement:

"For generations, Americans have answered the call and defended our nation and our freedoms. Many have left service permanently disabled and many more have struggled with unemployment. Fulfilling the obligations we have made to those injured in military service and veterans receiving education through the GI Bill must remain a top priority for our nation. The human toll aside, given the enormous fiscal challenges facing our nation, the costs to fulfill our commitments to disabled veterans should cause every President and every member of Congress to think long and hard before putting our service members in harm's way."

H.R. 1407, the Veterans Cost of Living Adjustment Act, passed today by a voice vote. H.R. 1383, the Restoring GI Bill Fairness Act of 2011, also passed today. The Veterans Cost of Living Adjustment Act of 2011 adjusts the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities. The Restoring GI Bill Fairness Act of 2011 equalizes rates of reimbursement for certain veterans attending private institutions of higher education with help from the GI Bill.
